It was the year 1998 and the crimes rates in Bed Stuy weren't getting any better. That's one of the reasons my mother had enough and moved us after living there for nearly 10 years. But the main reason was when my brother Jr. got shot right in front of our building. 





I understood why we moved, but I still managed to have a hard time accepting it. It felt like my life would never be the same after we had to move off Gates Av. It was all I ever knew. My friends, our everyday lives that we spent up and down Nostrand and Marcy and anywhere else near it. I didn't know and didn't wanna know how to survive and make it anywhere else. All I wanted was to be where I felt safe. It may sound funny or unbelievable to many people but Bed Stuy was my safe place.

Even though it was a place that was filled with Violence, Drugs and every other crime you can think of. It was still a place that made me happy. It was a place where you had to make up your mind that either you would live hard forever or do what it takes to survive by any means necessary. Otherwise you would become another victim to it all. 


Bed Stuy Do or Die!

I'm convinced there will never be a better name for it. And there I was willing to do whatever it takes to be there...  It had just what I was looking for and just what I needed.
